Nick and Cassie {Engagement Session, Cleveland, TN}

I (Alan) was really excited when Cassie and Nick asked Jennifer and I to shoot their engagement and upcoming wedding.  Nick and I go WAY back; we’re talking all the way back to little league basketball here.  We played basketball with and against each other for well over a decade, and I can tell you that he is easily in the top 3 basketball players that I have ever met in person.  A particular game where he singlehandedly beat Maryville during my senior year comes to mind.  If that wasn’t enough, he is still the same player today that he was back then.  I’m not even going to pretend that I’m not jealous of that.  These days, I consider it a moral victory if I can run up and down the court without passing out from exhaustion!

Cassie and Jennifer met while teaching at Riceville.  From personal experience, I can tell you that the marriage of a former McMinn Central basketball player to a current Riceville teacher is a good thing!  We met them in Cleveland, where Nick is currently teaching, the other day for an engagement shoot.  Immediately, it was clear that these two were perfect for each other.  Their personalities fit so well together; it made for a really fun shoot!  Thank you both for allowing us to capture these moments and your upcoming wedding!

Jenn and I treat our own dogs as our children, so we LOVE it when dogs are part of the pictures.  Doc (left) was extremely well-behaved throughout the shoot.  Charlie (right) was extremely…enthusiastic throughout!  Haha

Check out this ring; nice job Nick!

I think this one is my favorite.  Cassie has such an effortless, beautiful smile.

As a wedding gift, Nick’s mom made them a quilt out of shirts and keepsakes from when he was younger.  There are tons of basketball shirts in there from his career as well as a mortarboard cover from high school graduation.  Very cool!  Also, the “7” and the “2” on either side of them are not just random; their wedding date is July 2nd!  We spread this out for a little impromptu picnic during our shoot.

Upstairs | Todd Richesin Interiors {Knoxville, TN}

Take one step into his new design studio or retail store, Upstairs, & you’ll agree that Todd Richesin is one of the most talented interior designers in a local & national scene. Named by the highly reputable Traditional Home as one of the “20 Young Designers to Watch” & House Beautiful‘s “Next Wave of Interior Designers to Watch in 2010.” His work has been featured in Southern Living on numerous occasions & at least a dozen times in other regional magazines & media outlets. His work is worthy of the recognition he receives… & more! In February, 2011 I was privileged to photograph Todd’s home, Casa Real, for At Home TN Magazine. Since, I’ve been eager to work alongside Todd. I was pleased & excited for him when he told me about the opening of his new store, Upstairs, & new home of his design studio located at 4515 Old Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919. Last Thursday evening I had the opportunity to photograph the ‘invitation only’ grand opening. I arrived an hour or so before guests & photographed the space, capturing the overall look & feel. Then, I had a wonderful time interacting with the guests & shooting a red-carpet entrance as they arrived. And, I simply must add, this place is amazing. It is one of the most well-designed & organized retail spaces I’ve visited, resulting in a very inspirational visit. Their products were of such high-quality yet all seemed to be a very good value. I’m quite eager to visit again! Speaking of, you should visit too; you’ll love it. Congrats Todd & the team!

The Danners {Lifestyle Session, South Pittsburgh, TN}

Although born in Alabama, my sister & I were raised in East TN. And several times a year my family would head Southwest to Muscle Shoals, AL to visit my grandparents, cousins & extended family. The route took us through the somewhat quiet town of South Pittsburgh, TN, bordering the state line of Alabama. I have such fond memories of driving through the historic downtown area, passing the little shops as we rode by. And, as any little boy would do, I would find myself itching to go inside one of the countless Tennessee-Alabama firework/gas stations situated along the route.

A flood of memories resurfaced when I was able to visit the Danner family in their home last Tuesday. About a year ago, the Danners left Athens to take up residence in South Pittsburgh. And just a few short weeks ago, on March 12, Travis & Rachel welcomed Levi into the world. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with good friends & rejoicing with them.

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedCan you believe this bassinet that Travis made? My goodness! I’m thoroughly impressed to say the least.
undefinedI always have much to talk about with the Danners. We’ve both had the opportunity to visit Israel on a few occasions & share a love for the Bible. You can see photos & keepsakes throughout Levi’s nursery. I love it!
undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedWhat a good looking family!
undefinedundefinedLevi, you are blessed to have such great parents. Travis & Rachel, congrats; you have a beautiful little boy. Thank you for the opportunity to share this time with you!

The McConkeys {Lifestyle Session, Englewood, TN}

You may recall this sweet family from last November when they welcomed their newest addition, Taryn. It was so enjoyable to visit the McConkey family at their home on Monday & play around on their farm. It’s been 6 months since Taryn’s birth so we wanted to capture this fun stage of life. She’s grown so much & looked quite adorable with her little bow in her hair.

undefinedundefinedShe was likely thinking, “What in the world are you people doing laying me down in the middle of this cow field?”
undefinedundefinedundefinedChrissi is such a pleasure to be around; she communicates such joy to her children.
undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedA fun family pic in the field (L to R): Kendyl, Chrissi, Taryn & Jason.
undefinedI thought these images of Kendyl were beautiful… she’ll look back with fond memories of being raised on the farm. Love it!
undefinedundefined Thanks friends for allowing me into your life… it’s wonderful to watch your family grow!

The Watsons {Spring ’11 Lifestyle Session}

It took a few minutes for her to warm up to me, after all, it has been a year since I’ve seen her last. But, before long little Sofia Watson was running around like she “owned the place.” We pushed her stroller, she showed me her Easter basket, brushed her baby doll’s hair (or lack of rather), went for a walk through a field, played on an exercise ball, put shoes on mommy, & more. It was fun & timely preparation for our life with a little girl come August… btw, we’re thinking we’ll name her Molly Claire!

Sofia’s wonderful parents, Todd & Sara, are such a fun couple whom I always curious to ask about their recent travels. Around a year ago, Sara asked Todd for a photo shoot for her birthday, I’m still smitten! I’m not sure the occasion this time but I was so thankful to share last Saturday morning with the Watson family. And, Sara was so kind to gift us a congrats present as we expect Molly. Thanks again friends… can’t wait to have you guys over soon!

undefinedundefinedundefinedThe official family photo: Todd, Sara, & Sofia.
undefinedundefinedSara’s getting things moving with the stroller & I had to catch a pic of Sofia’s little purple toenails.
undefinedFor some reason, I love the feel of this image. It reminds me of an old image of my mother as a little girl.
undefinedundefinedThis series of images in the field are my favorites! The lighting was beautiful & I loved how they interacted as a family.
undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedLook at that look on her face… love it!
undefinedundefinedundefinedNext, we walked over to Sara’s brother’s house. We had a great time playing in his basement.
undefinedundefinedundefinedThis was a neat moment… as if she said, “Here mommy, you can wear my shoes.”
undefinedAnd a bit more time outside.
undefinedundefinedWhy not a quick game of peek-a-boo!
