David & Courtney Engagement Session {Tuscaloosa, Alabama}

Tuscaloosa, Alabama is quickly becoming a place I really love to visit. Growing up in a family of Auburn fans, that’s no easy statement to make. However, I can’t help myself. For one, some of my very best friends live there & it’s a wonderful excuse to get to see them. Yet also, I’ve had such wonderful experiences photographing in the area. Last year I had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful New Year’s Eve Wedding in Tuscaloosa. I knew it was the start of something wonderful.

Two weeks ago I had the chance to head down to T-town to photograph David & Courtney’s engagement session. They showed me such hospitality; it couldn’t have been better.

These two were introduced through Courtney’s best friend, Heidi (way to go Heidi!!!). After having met David, Heidi immediately knew he was the perfect fit for Courtney. And after much convinced, the two were officially introduced. That was 2008. Fast forward to March 14, 2009 as the couple watched a movie together; afterward, David asked Courtney to be his girlfriend. That night was a benchmark for the next few years together. Little did she know, 3 years later from that night, he would spend the entire day leading up to a proposal. David gave her 3 roses throughout the day that symbolized their relationship throughout the years… a yellow rose to represent friendship; a yellow turning red rose symbolizing falling in love; then, a red rose to mark that they were in love. Following dinner they came back to the apartment where he said he had one more surprise. She saw 2 red roses laying together. He got down on one knee & asked her to be his bride. And of course, she said yes!

I could go on & on about David & Courtney. I loved getting a glimpse into their life together as they enjoy crossfit, cooking, gardening, tennis & biking. They are super-fun… I think I’ll let the pictures do the talking! Enjoy.

Our session began at the President’s Mansion on the campus of the University of Alabama

And of course, Denny Chimes, on the quad.

We then changed into a more casual wardrobe & headed over to the University of Alabama Arboretum for a picnic.

A little amphitheater was the perfect setting for our picnic. The couple had prepared a wonderful lunch, complete with homemade blueberry jam made with blueberries from their garden.

Love this!

Afterward, we headed back to campus to take advantage of it’s beautiful grounds.

And a bit of dancing on the quad.

We opted to end the session with one of their favorite activities to do together, ride bikes. It was fantastic!

Perfection! I can’t wait to head back down on August 11 for your beautiful wedding. I feel honored to share this time with you guys!

Fine Art Website Launch

I’m so excited to announce the launch of my Fine Art Website. For a few years now I’ve been really encouraged when walking into clients & friends homes where my Fine Art pieces have been displayed. And since opening our studio back in March, dozens of visitors have asked if the photographs were available. To date, we’ve sold several pieces yet wanted to make the prints available on a larger scale. Hence, I’ve been working behind the scenes designing our Finch Photography Fine Art site. And we’re excited to announce that it is officially live at finchphoto.net.

Many pieces have been featured in galleries & juried exhibits across the region. And guests can come by the studio & see dozens of prints & canvases displayed throughout our offices. Maybe you should visit… wink, wink!

Our Fine Art prints are available in various sizes on Fine Art Canvas or on Art Print Matted & Framed. If you’ve been looking for a beautiful piece to put in your home or office, wait no longer. We’ve limited the production on many of these pieces so that you are ensured an exclusive product. And we’re in the process of working with a few select interior designers who will be featuring our work in homes & businesses across the region (click here if you are a designer & would like to schedule a meeting).

I’d love for you to visit! And check back often as we’ll be revealing additional pieces & galleries (travel, objects, etc.). Enjoy!

Chris & Kensey’s Wedding {First Baptist Church | Jacksboro, Tennessee}

On several occasions throughout the day I watched Kensey smile as she wipep away tears from her eyes. There was no mistaking that her tears came from a full heart, a heart that overflowed with joy. For much of her life she dreamed of this day. And it finally came.

I met Chris & Kensey for the first time back in October as I cruised up the interstate to Caryville, TN to Cove Lake State Park for their engagement shoot. Every interaction I’ve had with Kensey, she has been kind, complimentary & full of life. And the same could be said about Chris. Although Kensey warned me of his shyness, I thought nothing of it & genuinely enjoyed our time. These two are truly invested in their community & when I consider how they are loving & caring for dozens of youth that they teach & coach, I’m both encouraged & challenged. Put these two together & it’s the perfect fit.

Chris & Kensey chose to have their wedding ceremony at First Baptist Church in Jacksboro, TN. There are so many things I’ll remember from their wedding day. For one, I’ll never forget the look Chris had on his face as he watched Kensey come down the aisle. He demonstrated amazing control as he was overcome. And, I still have a huge grin thinking about when Kensey’s maid of honor forgot the wedding ring during the ceremony & politely dismissed herself before running back up on stage as if to hope it never happened. That was classic! Plus, I wish I would’ve video’d the best-man, Chris’s brother, as he toasted the new couple; I think Chris’s face is still red. I could go on & on about a boat ride, amazing light, fireworks, & etc. I suppose I’ll let the pics to do the talking. Enjoy my friends!

The day started at Krome Salon & Spa in LaFollette. Here’s Kensey as she writes notes to loved ones.

Love that smile!

I had my great friend Alan photographing with me for the day. After leaving the salon, we headed over to the church.

Alan has become a master of ring shots… well done my friend.

As the beautiful bride makes the final preparations.

Kensey, your eyes are amazing… they glow!

As Kensey opens a gift from a family member.

It was over 100 degrees outside so we tried to be creative with the indoor space… love these pics of Kensey!

Kensey’s ladies were super-fun!

I’m pretty sure this little chick was trying to overtake my position. It was quite cute, she was saying, “Look right here!! Look right here!!”

Really love the feel of these images.

Prior to the ceremony, the couple wanted to exchange cards without seeing one another… this turned out great!

As the ceremony was to begin.

The moment in the ceremony when they realized the ring was elsewhere.

And the ring made it’s way into the ceremony.

Hooray!

The bridesmaids & groomsmen judged the kiss.

As the guests went ahead to the reception site, I spent a few moments with the couple at the church. They both coach basketball so we took some photos in their b-ball kicks. Fun!

When we arrived at the lake side, the lighting couldn’t have been more perfect. Beautiful!

Yes they did.

The reception details.

The couple arrived to the reception via boat… love this entrance.

During the toast.

And the first dance.

Kensey & her dad were so much fun to watch.

And the party was in full-swing.

Anyone recognize the Dougie?!

As the couple made their exit.

Congrats friends… what an honor to photograph your wedding. It was wonderful!

Brandon and Esther’s Wedding {Mouse Creek Nursery | Riceville, Tennessee}

Travel down I-75 in between Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tennessee and you’ll pass by exit 42. If you were to venture off the interstate, you’ll soon see signs for Mouse Creek Nursery, which happens to be the family home & farm of our bride, Esther. And it was also the lovely location for Brandon & Esther’s summer wedding.

I can’t recall when I first met Esther; I imagine it was through church camp with First Baptist Church in Athens. However, Esther is the type of person that once you meet here, you’ll never forget it. She unbelievably optimistic & energetic… she’s a ton of fun. As a Middle School teacher, I imagine her students absolutely love her! And Brandon, a dairy farmer & Texas A&M grad, is about as laid back as they come. He’s such a nice guy. And together, they’re a wonderful match.

Brandon & Esther chose to have their wedding at the nursery. Of course the decorations were beautiful & the ceremony location could not have been any prettier. Here are a few selections from the day:

Photos & special reminders of Esther & Brandon were set up for guests to view.

Before the activities began, Esther gifted her flower girls with beautiful necklaces.

When Esther’s dad saw her for the first time, he beamed with pride at his daughter.

Such a fun bride!

And her man.

Close friends gather to pray with Esther.

As the ceremony began.

Isn’t this ceremony location incredible?!

What a great afternoon! Thanks Brandon & Esther for the opportunity to share this wonderful occasion with you; I’m very honored! I hope you enjoy your preview… they are plenty more!

Levi and Caroline’s Wedding {Scott Mansion | Tellico Plains, Tennessee}

It all happened so fast. One minute I was photographing Levi & Caroline for their engagement session & we were talking about Tennessee Wesleyan College’s upcoming baseball season, where Levi had just transferred. Next thing I know, they’re headed to the NAIA tourney & end up winning the National Championship. And a few days later, Levi is drafted by the Seattle Mariners. Then, at Caroline’s bridal shoot, she informs me that the day after their wedding, they were headed to Mariner training camp in Virginia. Whew… so many wonderful & exciting things packed into a few short months.

However, it’s not all of this excitement that really made me eager for Levi & Caroline’s wedding. Rather, it’s the ease of conversation I shared with them both & how they seem, like a puzzle, to fit together. As I look through Caroline’s Instagram feed, I am assured that Caroline is Levi’s biggest fan. I love seeing the pics at the stadium & what seems like a regular diet of stadium hot-dogs… after all, they are the best! Yet, if we were to get to the heart of it, although Caroline is in the stands cheering on her man, I can guarantee you it is he who is the fan of his bride.

I felt honored to photograph Levi & Caroline’s Historic Scott Mansion Wedding. Friends & family from all over the country flew in for the wedding, arriving at one of the most beautiful wedding venues in the region. I had my dear friend & incredible photographer, Alan, assisting me for the wedding so I knew we’d hit every angle. And, because of his influence, I knew a little Justin Bieber would be piped through the speakers on the way to & from. Can’t win them all! Ha. Below is a selection from the wedding day.

One could spend days on the property & never exhaust the many photo opportunities… beautiful!

A lovely dress. It seemed to fit Caroline’s style  perfectly.

Some of the details.

And her beautiful ladies. These chicks were so much fun!

I could’ve photographed Caroline for days… she made my job effortless.

And the fellas as they prepped in the cabin. Here’s Levi as he finishes up… looking quite dapper!

Love these pics Alan captured… great job!

Levi & Caroline chose to see one another before the ceremony… here’s Caroline coming down the stairs just before stepping out to greet Levi.

Levi beamed with pride as he saw his bride-to-be.

As the ceremony began.

Perfect.

Yes!

The wedding party.

And their families.

So proud of his son.

And my favorite moments from the day.

As the reception began.

Love their entrance to the reception.

Caroline & her father.

Levi & his mother.

Toasts.

The Bakery in Athens, TN did an incredible job not only with the cakes but also the catering for the reception. I love working with Dawn & her crew!

Such a moving moment when Caroline’s grandfather teared up as he congratulated his granddaughter.

And the party started! It was fantastic.

Love this series from the garter toss!

As they exited. Congrats friends… your wedding was so much fun. Thank you for the opportunity to share the day with you.
