Emily + Derrick {A Christmas Wedding | Cleveland, TN}

It’s official, I (Alan) am getting old!  I have now photographed a bride whose birth announcement I can remember…yikes!  Meet Emily and her husband Derrick.  Emily’s family and I go way back.  Her father Ron was my Sunday school teacher way back when at First Baptist Athens.  I still remember Emily as a child…pigtails, freckles, and as cute as can be!  Where does the time go?  Instead of pigtails, Emily has no grown into a beautiful young lady, and I was honored recently to photograph her Christmas wedding.  It was a perfect December day in Cleveland, TN.  Temps in the 60s, a bit windy (ok, maybe a LOT windy), and the incoming rain held off just long enough for Derrick and Emily’s big day.  Thanks guys for allowing us to be a part of your wedding; we had a blast!

While Jenn was off celebrating Christmas with her family, I was joined by my friend and fellow photographer Marcey Allen to help capture Emily and Derrick’s wedding.  I loved the different angles she was able to capture throughout the day;  thanks friend!

After grabbing some details at the Lee University Chapel, I swung by the Old Woolen Mill where the girls were getting ready.

Love this sequence of Emily giving letters and bridal portraits to her mom and dad.

#WeddingSelfie Love it!

Such perfect colors in the bridal bouquet.

Derrick putting the finishing touches on his letter to Emily.

Fantastic shot by Marcey as Emily is just about to show her bridesmaids the wedding dress.

About a week before the wedding, I met up with Emily to do a bridal session.  The next several images of her are from that day.  She was an absolute trooper!  It may not look like it, but believe me…it was COLD that day!

Back to the big day.  This was such a great moment between father and daughter!

And Marcey was able to capture mom sneaking a peek!

The exchange of letters before seeing each other.

What a powerful moment!

A few of the groom looking quite good.

Derrick and the guys.

While I was away getting pictures of the gentlemen, Marcey was getting Emily and her bridesmaids by the Christmas tree on Lee’s campus.

No groomsmen  Only one groomsman was harmed during the making of these pictures!  Ha!

Instead of a book, guests signed and then hung Christmas ornaments on a tree.

As the ceremony begins.

Check out the cell phone grab in the background; love it!

As I was finishing the ceremony, Marcey was getting the reception details before everyone arrived.

The first dance.

Such a great moment between father and daughter!

And the party begins!

A first for me…the football garter toss.

As the Vestals leave for Jamaica; congratulations!

Ann Catherine + Asher {Engagement Session | Asheville, NC}

I’m sure I’ll sound like a broken record, but Autumn is by far my favorite time of year!  Such beautiful colors and perfect temperatures!  It’s also football season, but as UT fans we don’t like to discuss that much right now.  Anyway, back to the better parts of Autumn.  Meet Asher and Ann Catherine, both diehard UT fans so they understand about the football part!  They contacted us a while back with plans for an engagement shoot in the fall.  As they live in North Carolina, we thought Asheville would be the perfect place to meet up and take advantage of all the beauty that this part of the country contains.  We met just outside of UNC Asheville at the Asheville Botanical Gardens.  It’s a gorgeous place that I highly recommend visiting if you are ever in the area!  We met up and toured the gardens on an absolutely perfect day.  Congrats guys; can’t wait to shoot your upcoming wedding!

A bit of rock hopping got us to the middle of a nearby creek.  And no one fell in thank goodness!

I loved the light at this little cabin in the woods.

Our scheduled date was just a little past prime color.  However, there was one small grove of maple trees that were still holding onto their leaves!

Since most of the color was already on the ground, we took full advantage of it!

I love all of the little bridges in this place!

After the botanical gardens, we ventured into downtown Asheville to see what we could find.

Bowtie.  ‘Nuff said.

Fantastic color in this little doorway!

We ended up the evening at a coffee house.

Inside was a little bookstore selling only vintage books.  It was perfect!

Marcie + Armando {Fall Country Wedding | Lenoir City, TN}

Does anyone remember how rainy the spring wedding season was?  It seems like a distant memory now as we are wrapping up what has been a gorgeous fall season!  A few weeks back, Jenn and I got to sneak up to Lenoir City to photograph Marcie and Armando’s gorgeous country wedding.  You may recall Marcie’s bridal shoot from a few months back (click here).  Their wedding was held at Marcie’s family farm, and it had a little bit of everything: perfect decorations, a sunset that made everyone step out and take a peak, and some of the most epic dancing I’ve seen in a while!  Their day was exactly what a wedding should be:  a celebration of two people who are clearly meant for each other.  Thanks to everyone involved for making Jenn and I feel like part of the family; you guys were a blast!

As Marcie was getting ready, she read her note to Armando.  I love how she ended it…”I’ll be the one in white!”

After the getting ready details, we made the trip to Marcie’s family farm…site of the wedding and reception.

Details, details, details!  Everything pictured inside the barn was a family heirloom.

An absolutely breathtaking tribute to Marcie’s late mother; I believe everyone who saw it was moved to tears.

Reception site details.

I cannot describe to you how nervous I was hanging the dress!

Armando getting ready.

Looking good my friend!

Armando’s son AJ; this man knows how to dance!  More on that at the reception.

Looking sharp guys!

Last minute details of Marcie getting ready.

Honorary groomsman.  Jenn and I have two Yorkies so we loved it!

Gorgeous bride and her lovely ladies!

Marcie and Armando chose to keep it traditional, but that didn’t stop them from exchanging gifts beforehand.

As the ceremony starts.

Love this moment Jenn captured just before AJ headed down the aisle.

Such emotion as Marcie arrived to the ceremony site.

Gorgeous Tennessee fall weather.

Following the ceremony.  These two are perfect for one another!

Love the simplicity of this one.  Such a classic feel.

Good man!

Some more reception details.

As the happy family arrives at the reception!

Skills…that’s all I’ve got to say!

Love these moments of Marcie’s dad and the girls.

OK, this was absolutely one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever witnessed.  For about half and hour, it just kept getting better and better.  People were literally stepping away from their meals to check it out!

Absolutely stunning!

Fantastic cake sequence!

Beautiful toasts to the bride and groom.

Alright Armando, we’ve REALLY got to talk about your garter throwing skills!  This was Take 3 I believe.

And then we danced the night away.

Love it!

Has a very 1920′s gangster feel.

Told you AJ could dance!

This explains everything in a nutshell; what an amazing group!

  1. Aunt Toni Shaw AKA An Old Biddie! / I know Ben, the two of you had a perfect couple and a perfect day to work with, but your photos completed the perfection! Thank you so much for putting up with this crazy bunch, and still be able to do an awesome job!! Kudos!11.19.13 / 3:09 pm
